When 2020 hit, the world locked down, Dan dug his heels in and started slinging ribs and trays from the driveway of his Mayfair home with online click n' collect. Then in 2021 after many miles of food truckin’ across the region, it was time to put down roots and we opened our first location - Warren Street.
Now we've become a staple in Hawke's Bay culture, running strong teams across the restaurant, food truck, catering and events. We’re still serving up those OG burgers and brisket, pouring cold ones, with the same energy we started with.

Every inch of this space has been painstakingly and meticulously curated to channel true Western saloon energy, right down to the scent of leather, aged wood, and good whisky in the air. It's dim, it's moody, and it's unapologetically authentic.

Tucked behind Black Betty on Warren Street is a hidden gem
Part retro lounge, part psychedelic den, this private hire space channels Miami Vice, western kitsch, and a splash of chaos in the best way. It’s fully self-contained with its own private toilet and kitchenette, dog-friendly, and totally customisable for whatever mood you’re setting. Whether it’s a birthday bash, a hens party, a long lunch, or a low-key gathering, the lounge can flex to fit up to 25 seated guests comfortably.
We’ve hosted everything from 21's birthday blow out nights to hen's parties and karaoke — it’s a space that bends to your imagination. Black Betty can cater your event with our signature BBQ trays, cocktails, and snacks — just have a chat with us at time of booking.
